Selvatura Park at a glance

Selvatura is a private adventure park in Monteverde, Costa Rica, and it is not a national park, so anyone searching for Monte Verde National Park will find a privately run park here. It sells separate tickets for a hanging bridge trail, a canopy zipline tour and several exhibits. This site is an independent guide. It is not run by the park and does not sell its tickets, so book through the park itself or through a tour listing.

According to the park's FAQ, each ticket is valid only for the activity you choose. A bridge ticket does not include the zipline, and neither includes the exhibits. Price lists also add 13% tax and fees, so the base price on a page is not the final price.

The hanging bridge trail

The trail links 8 bridges along about 3 km (1.9 mi) of path in the forest. Plan 1 to 1.5 hours. The longest bridge is 157 m (515 ft). The path is marked, and you stay on it.

Rules on the Selvatura Park hanging bridges

The park asks visitors to follow a few rules on the bridges:

  • Do not jump, sway the bridge or climb on structures.
  • Do not feed animals and do not eat on the trail.
  • Do not shout.

Treetopia, the park formerly known as Sky Adventures Monteverde, is a separate operator with its own bridges and prices. Treetopia lists its Sky Walk with 6 bridges on about 1.7 mi (2.7 km) at $49 per person, so the two parks differ in length and layout. Compare both on our hanging bridges page.

The Selvatura zip line and canopy tour

The Selvatura zipline in Monteverde starts daily at 8:30 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. and takes about 2 to 2.5 hours. The Superman line is an optional add-on.

Selvatura sets its own limits, so do not copy them from other parks:

  • Minimum age 4. Maximum weight 275 lb (125 kg).
  • Tarzan swing: maximum 198 lb (90 kg).
  • Harness limits: waist 47 in (120 cm), leg 30 in (75 cm).
  • Superman: minimum 121 lb (55 kg). Confirm the minimum height when you book.

For other zipline parks and what to compare, see the zipline page.

Exhibits and what the park does not have

The butterfly exhibit and the amphibian and reptile exhibit are paid extras. They are exhibits, not a promise of wildlife on the forest trail. The park also runs a sloth habitat.

The park states that it has no hummingbird garden. Older articles still describe a garden with feeders, so ignore them. If you want birds in the wild, a guided walk in a reserve is a better fit, as described on our cloud forest reserve page.

Planning your day

A simple order that fits the opening hours and the tour times.

Book the canopy tour first

The tour has fixed start times. Pick the 8:30 a.m. slot and it ends around 10:30 to 11:00 a.m.

Walk the bridges afterward

The trail needs 1 to 1.5 hours and is open until 4:00 p.m., so a late morning or early afternoon walk fits.

Add an exhibit only if you want it

Exhibits cost extra and do not come with the other tickets.

Sort out your transfer

The park lists a free hotel transfer with a canopy or bridge booking and $7.50 per person otherwise, mainly for hotels within about 2 mi (3 km) of the town center. Confirm it for your ticket, because pickup is not guaranteed everywhere. More on routes in getting to Monteverde.
