Ziplining in Monteverde at a glance
This page covers Monteverde in Costa Rica, not the towns of that name in Italy or Uruguay. Monteverde ziplines and canopy tours run through the forest around the town. All of them are private parks. They are not part of the cloud forest reserves, and this guide is independent of the operators.
The key point is that limits differ from park to park. A weight limit that applies to the main canopy line does not automatically apply to the Superman line or the Tarzan swing, and one park's age rule says nothing about the next. Check the limit for the exact activity you want.

Choosing the best zipline in Monteverde for your group
Start with who is going and what you want from the day.
With young children
Selvatura takes children from age 4 and Treetopia from age 5, the lowest minimums listed. Children under 4 are excluded from the canopy at Selvatura. The other parks start at age 6, and minors aged 6 to 17 at 100% Aventura must go with an adult.
With a heavier or lighter group
Treetopia lists a maximum of 136 kg (300 lb). Selvatura lists 125 kg (275 lb) and 100% Aventura 120 kg (265 lb) on the main canopy. Superman lines work the other way round: Selvatura sets a minimum of 55 kg (121 lb), Aventura asks for 50โ100 kg (110โ220 lb) and Extremo for at least 45 kg (99 lb).
For a longer circuit
Extremo lists 11 cables, Aventura 9 regular lines plus 2 Superman lines, and Treetopia 7 ziplines with a Tree Tram ride included. Extremo calls its circuit the longest tour in Costa Rica. That is the operator's own claim, not an independent ranking.

Selvatura's Superman add-on is $12.15 for students and $9.45 for children. Weight limits for ziplining in Costa Rica
Weight limits are set by each park and often by each line, so the figures in the table apply only to these four Monteverde parks. The main canopy limits run from 120 kg (265 lb) to 136 kg (300 lb), and the Superman lines have minimums of 45 to 55 kg (99 to 121 lb) where a park lists one.
What a canopy tour in Monteverde includes
Selvatura's canopy takes about 2 to 2.5 hours, and Superman is a paid add-on. Treetopia's SkyTrek takes about 2.5 hours and includes the Tree Tram. At 100% Aventura the tour includes a hanging bridge, a rappel and a Mega Tarzan swing, and the operator gives about 3 hours, though its quick facts describe the duration as variable. Extremo estimates 2 to 3 hours and lists a Tarzan swing plus underground and overhead Superman lines.
A canopy ticket is a ticket for the canopy only. At Selvatura, hanging bridges, ziplines and animal exhibits are priced separately. If you want both a zipline and the bridges, our hanging bridge guide compares the two bridge parks.

Safety and what to wear
Treetopia and 100% Aventura both require closed shoes. Harness size matters: Selvatura publishes limits of 120 cm (47 in) at the waist and 75 cm (30 in) at the leg. Follow your guides' instructions. This guide cannot rank parks by safety, and operator marketing is not proof of an accident record. If something worries you, ask the park about guide training and equipment before you pay.
Weather and cancellations
100% Aventura names heavy rain, nearby thunderstorms and strong wind as reasons to cancel. Do not assume a tour runs in every weather. Read the Monteverde weather guide for the rainy season, and check each park's cancellation terms when you book.
Getting there
The Selvatura adventure park in Monteverde offers a hotel transfer, free with a canopy or bridge booking and $7.50 per person otherwise, mainly for hotels within about 2 miles (3 km) of the town center. Aventura does not include transport in its price. See how to get to Monteverde for road conditions.
Ziplines in the Monteverde cloud forest
A zip line canopy tour in Monteverde runs at a private park, never inside the cloud forest reserves, and every Monteverde canopy line belongs to one of the four parks above. Mist and rain are part of the setting, so zip lining in Monteverde means dressing for wet weather.
Closed shoes are required at Treetopia and 100% Aventura. Operators can cancel for heavy rain, nearby thunderstorms or strong wind, so ask what happens to your booking before you pay.
